At Tidy Green Clean, our people are at the heart of everything we do. This month, we’re catching up with Grant Peterkin, who leads our Aberdeen South region. Grant shares insights into his journey, his approach to leadership, and what drives him both inside and outside of work.
Before joining Tidy Green Clean, I spent nine years in the hospitality industry, working in several city hotels and eventually becoming a Food and Beverage Manager. While I loved the fast-paced environment, I realised the industry didn’t offer the best work-life balance, so I decided it was time for a change.
I then moved into corporate events and, soon after, joined Aberdeen Science Centre – now one of Tidy Green Clean’s valued clients – where I spent the next nine years. It was a fantastic experience; I had the opportunity to lead a talented team and contribute to a range of exciting projects. It was during this time that I met Andrew, and as they say, the rest is history!
I celebrated eight years with TGC this August. When I started, the Aberdeen South region had just eight cleaners. Today, we’ve grown to a team of over 70 cleaners, and we’ve even expanded into another region in Edinburgh.
As the business has grown, my role has evolved from being hands-on in every detail to focusing more on leadership and strategy. I now rely on an incredible supervisory team who oversee day-to-day operations, support our staff, and maintain our high standards across the region.
On a personal note, my wife Kelly joined Tidy Green Clean six years ago. Many people warned us that working together might be tricky, but it’s actually been great – we make a strong team both at home and at work.
Without question, it’s the people. Our team is the most important part of the company. As we’ve grown, staying connected with everyone individually has become more challenging, which is why our supervisory structure is so important. They act as my link to the wider team, ensuring everyone feels supported and valued.
The welfare of our staff is my top priority, making sure they have the right equipment, the right support, and that they’re happy in their roles. A positive, engaged team is what keeps our standards high and our customers happy.
Life outside of work is definitely busy! I have two kids and two dogs, including a new dachshund puppy who keeps us all on our toes. I’m also a car enthusiast. I enjoy maintenance and have a project car that I work on in my spare time. It’s a great way to switch off and focus on something completely different.
I’m really excited to continue our growth journey, not just in Aberdeen but also in Edinburgh. We’ve built a fantastic foundation and an amazing team – now it’s about continuing to grow sustainably while maintaining the values and standards that make Tidy Green Clean what it is today.
