Located on the Isle of Cumbrae on the Firth of Clyde, the Field Studies Council’s centre, FSC Millport has a rich history as a marine research station. Since becoming a field centre, purpose-built accommodation and teaching spaces have been created to provide an excellent base for a range of courses. The Centre is easily reached in just 10 minutes by ferry from the mainland at Largs.
FSC Millport is a busy field studies centre that hosts schools, universities, and local groups. The young people who visit study the natural world at local field sites, use the research facilities on board their research vessel, or get active on the natural climbing wall. Consequently, the centre experiences a constant flow of people, wearing muddy boots, wet clothes and who stay overnight and are fed and watered. It’s vital that FSC Millport’s outstanding reputation for hospitality and excellent facilities is maintained in order to continue to support those who wish to benefit from a field centre visit.
Tidy Green Clean provides a full time team of two staff with a third team member as back-up who provide eight hours a day, seven days a week support. We keep communal areas clean and perform all room change overs. The bedrooms are all ensuite and sleep one, two or three people, with 139 beds in total. The communal areas include the student common room and games room, a library, adult only lounge, and workrooms. We work hard to maintain the expectations of all visitors, as well as those who work there.
FSC Millport is designed to let young people fully experience all that the outdoors has to offer, with a scientific slant. We’ve worked there since September2022, with the contract growing from its original scope because Tidy Green Clean were able to deliver everything they asked for – and more.
We value Tidy Green Clean’s commercial cleaning offering, and their team feels like part of ours. They meet all the work schedules and are responsive and flexible if guests’ plans change at the last minute. When we get an influx of wet and muddy teenagers in through the door, they’re not far behind to clean up after them –to great effect.
